Screening of the W. German Film 'Komitas'

The film was directed by Don Askarian, a native of Karabagh.

In the past decade one of the biggest concerns of the Armenian Diaspora has been to impel the world to recognition of the 1915 Armenian Genocide, and this film is a vivid evocation of that tragic period.

Komitas was awarded the Interfilm prize at this year’s Max-Ophils-Preis Competition. The declaration of the Interfilm Jury read:
“Together with the monk and composer Komitas, who resigned himself to silence following the mass slaughter of 1915, we partake of his suffering and still mourn for the Armenian people.
Don Askarian has composed his film in lyrical images with intensive force of representation, and he maintains without compromise his aesthetic credo throughout."
Subsequently the film has received much critical acclaim.
